Morro Bay High School got its cross country season off to a good start hosting the Morro Bay Invitational Meet Saturday, Sept. 8 and aided by the support of numerous volunteers, alumni, and friends of the program. The meet drew 39 schools form across California with 1,082 total runners competing in the 3.1 miles varsity races and the 2.25-mile Junior Varsity races. According to coach, Chuck Ogle, the Pirates performed well against top-flight competition, with the top 15 finishers in each race getting medals.
On the Girls’ Varsity Team, veterans Adrienne Frere and Anelise Dempsey earned medals with Frere finishing 12th in 22-minutes and 35 seconds, and Dempsey 15th in 23:58. There were 151 runners in the girls’ varsity race.
Of note: Morro Bay’s standout Audrey McClish has been nursing a foot injury and didn’t compete (in a race that she won last year).
Freshman, Peyton Schemmer, in a very strong debut, finished 13th in 17:34 in a race with 92 runners.
No team scores were kept, which Coach Ogle said is typical at early season meets. Other MBHS results included:
