Hwy 41 Job a Rainout

A local road project that’s been on and off again, is off again after bad weather blew in and rained out the job.

The project at the intersection of Hwy 41 and Los Altos Road in Atascadero was postponed on Jan. 8 due to rainy weather. It had been scheduled to start that Monday after being halted once before.

The contractor for the $1.5 million, “emergency project” is Shetler Construction of San Luis Obispo, which is working under a permit granted to the City of Atascadero from Caltrans. The project will extend a left-turn lane and rebuild the intersection from Los Altos Road to Old Morro Road, according to Caltrans.

When it resumes, motorists will get one-way reversing traffic through the construction zone and can expect delays of around 10 minutes.

Caltrans wants to remind motorists to move over and slow down while driving through highway construction zones. And, also, traffic tickets are doubled in construction zones, which are patrolled by the Highway Patrol.

See Caltrans Dis. 5 website at: www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/paffairs/release.htm#slo to check on traffic conditions.
