The League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo County in cooperation with the Latino Outreach Council and other organizations is sponsoring several upcoming candidate forums leading up to the Primary Election on June 5.
Dist. 2 Supervisor candidates will meet from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, April 20 at the Morro Bay Vet’s Hall, 209 Surf St. Sponsors are the LOC, and the Morro Bay, Los Osos/Baywood Park and Cambria Chambers of Chamber of Commerce. Candidates are incumbent Bruce Gibson, and challengers Jeff Eckles and Patrick Sparks.
A judicial candidates’ forum is set for 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 at the County Government Center, 1055 Monterey St., SLO. Seven seats are up for election but only two are being contested.
Incumbent Hernaldo Baltodano is being challenged by Deputy District Attorney, Andy Cadena; and in the other contested judgeship, Superior Court Commissioner Tim Covello is vying against defense attorney, Ilan Funke-Bilu for a rare open seat on the bench.
District Attorney candidates will meet from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at the County Government Center in SLO. Incumbent Dan Dow is being challenged by Judge Mike Cummins, a former prosecutor and Stanislaus County judge (his first name is “Judge”).
Candidates in the Dist. 4 Supervisor race will meet from 6-9 Thursday, May 10 at the Oceano Community Services District Office, 1566 Front St. Incumbent Lynn Compton is being challenged by infrastructure project manager, Jimmy Paulding.
All the forums are free and open to the public. The LWV will also be on hand to register people to vote.
