Cal Poly’s Solar Farm Ribbon-cutting Ceremony

Cal Poly’s Solar Farm was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The new 18.5-acre facility, which is visible from Highway 1 (near the California Men’s Colony), has a 4.5 megawatts capacity (AC) or enough to power more than 1,000 homes, or about 25 percent of Cal Poly’s total needs. The project is a partnership between the university and REC Solar. It is estimated that the facility will result in millions of dollars in savings on the university’s utility bills over 20 years, and is part of efforts to transform Cal Poly into a net zero campus.
