Surfboard Art Unveiling, Sept. 30
October 7 - December 2
The Fourth Annual Morro Bay Surfboard Art Festival is making major expansions this year with a new partnership between event organizers Morro Bay in Bloom and the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, the festival announced.
The festival, which features some 45 surfboards uniquely painted and decorated by local artists and students, will be on display at sponsoring businesses throughout SLO County, from Oct. 7-Dec. 1 and then auctioned off at a gala event on Dec. 2 at the Inn at Morro Bay to benefit Morro Bay in Bloom.
Through the partnership with SLOMOA the beauty of the artworks will reach a bigger audience when the boards are put on display Thursday, Nov. 2 in a pop-up art show during the Thursday Night SLO Downtown Farmer’s Market.
The Festival celebrates San Luis Obispo County’s unique creative culture and surfing lifestyle. As objects, surfboards are first sculpted by board-shaping masters into beautiful and functional objects that are collected and prized. Put in the hands of more than 20 talented local painters and sculptors, the surfboards become canvases for creative expression conveying familiar scenes of the coast, its wildlife and stunning ocean views. The variety and uniqueness of each surfboard is the magic of the festival.
The festival kicks off with a special public unveiling set for 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Forever Stoked art studio, 1164 Quintana Rd. A map of locations where the surfboards will be on display will be posted online on Oct. 7, see: mbsurfboardartfest.com.
