The new aquatics facility at Morro Bay High School is now open to the public, after the City Recreation Department announced a schedule of classes, but you’ll have to get up pretty early in the morning to enjoy. Classes started Jan. 9 and include:
• Lap swimming is from 5:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Cost is $4 drop-in or $36 for 10 passes.
• Master’s coached swimming is from 5:45-6:45 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Cost is $5 drop-in fee of $45 for 10-passes.
• Aqua Zumba is from 7:15-8:15 a.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays. Cost is $7 drop-in or $60 for 10 passes.
• Lap swimming is from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Cost is $4 drop-in or $36 for 10 passes.
Passes will be available at the pool. If readers are worried about the early morning hours, the pool is heated, so expect 78-82 degree water and lifeguards will be on duty.
The City is still looking to hire more lifeguards. Certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Title 22 First Aid and Lifeguard Training are a requirement. Call 772-6278 if you think you have what it takes.
The City is working on adding swimming lessons for children, considered an important skill in a harbor town, and hopes to have a class up and running in late spring or early summer.
