SWAP to Raffle Off Mural Artwork

Learn about Small Wilderness Area Protection (SWAP) and the Elfin Forest at an auction kick-off and a raffle reception, hosted by Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Deanna Richards, from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 12, at Richards’ Edward Jones Office, 1235 Los Osos Valley Rd.

SWAP is offering for silent auction Barbara Rosenthal’s original painting that was used in creating the Elfin Forest Mural on the wall of Los Osos Rexall. Moneys raised by the auction will help defray the costs of replacing signage that was attached to the mural.

The mural itself was paid for with a $2,500 National Wildlife Federation grant to SWAP. Rosenthal, assisted by members of SWAP, painted the mural in 1993, to thank the community for its support in protecting the Elfin Forest. Five panels with the names of over 2,000 donors were attached at one end of the mural but the panels have deteriorated from weathering and need to be replaced.

Richards is a long-time supporter of SWAP and the Elfin Forest, and invites the community to view the painting and learn more about the Elfin Forest. Snacks will be served, and several items of SWAP merchandise will be raffled off.

The painting will travel to other public locations in Los Osos where bids may be made. Bids will close on Dec. 15, and the winner will be announced.

The locations and winner will be posted on SWAP’s website at: www.elfin-forest.org. For additional information, leave a message at (805) 528-0392.
