Morro Bay High Girls’ Water Polo Team lost a hard-fought, close match, 5-4 to Nipomo on Feb. 9 during the Los Padres League Tournament, capping off a pretty successful first season with their own home swimming pool.
The 2017-18 season marked the school’s first ever with a home pool, breaking in the new aquatics facility with hard play and exciting matches.
The girls started the season out great with a 15-1 win over San Luis Obispo to start the year, followed by an 11-2 win over Nordhoff, a 12-1 win over Lompoc, and a 15-0 win over Pioneer Valley, before falling 9-4 to Nipomo, according to results posted on Maxpreps.com.
After that hot start the team’s other highlights include an 18-1 win over Pioneer Valley, an 8-6 win over Nipomo, 8-4 win over Pacifica, 18-1 and 8-4 wins over Santa Maria, a 9-5 win over SLO, and a 12-2 win over Lompoc.
The girls finished 3-5 in league play and 11-14 overall and were 4th in the LPL behind champs Cabrillo (6-0 in LPL), Santa Ynez (4-1) and Nipomo (6-2).
