SLO’s Newest Brew Pub Offers Green Vision

Seven Sisters Brewing held their Grand Opening on Sept. 22 -23 with owner and brewer Steven Van Middlesworth doubling as a balloon artist to set the atmosphere in the child and dog friendly hangout.

In the complex of businesses behind Trader Joe’s and Food-For-Less, off Tank Farm Road, the new brewery took several months to open after renovations and permit wrangling with the City of SLO. That’s work Middlesworth handled largely by himself. They’ve blended some naturalistic elements into the industrial building that used to house a furniture store and have themed most of their offerings off of the Seven Sister “Morros” stretching out to sea. Those are also artistically represented  in an wall-long mural dominating the tasting room interior.

While it’s argued that there are nine sisters at times, the “Rock” is already claimed by SLO Brew’s facility on the other side of the Airport.

With more brews on the way over the winter, examples of the themed brews include Morro Rock Kolsch, Hollister Peak Belgian and Bishop Peak Blonde. While they have enough tap slots for all seven, an generically named table beer and spicy brown are holding spots for the other permanent offerings.

Due to building occupancy constraints, hours are 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday and 2 p.m. -10 p.m. on weekends.
An engineer by trade, working for the Federal Government at Vandenberg, Middlesworth said he’s looking forward to the second career the establishment will become after already being a brewer for 27 years, in the days when he “couldn’t afford good beer…or find it.”

Aside from Brewing g facilities designed to be “as sustainable as possible” and a commitment to using local ingredients, other community friendly enticements include house made, all natural dog treats for visiting pups and a bar-fare / Farmer’s Table menu from their small kitchen.
